After a 14-year hiatus, director Gandhi Krishna, known for Nila Kaalam (2001), Chellamae (2004), and Anandha Thandavam (2009), is back with his latest film, Break Fast. Discussing his time away from direction, Gandhi explains, “I’ve been involved in various aspects of film work, including Indian 2. This script almost came to life a few years ago but was delayed until I met Girija Varadharajan, a textile industrialist from Bengaluru, who decided to back the project.”
Initially planned as a small-budget film, Break Fast grew in scale after the team saw its potential. The movie focuses on how today's youth treat breakups as routine, struggling to face the challenges of love. Gandhi clarifies that the film explores both sides of this issue, attributing the decline in deep relationships to the impact of smartphones.
The film features fresh faces such as Rosmin, Ranav, Krithik Mohan, and Amitha. Gandhi praises Rosmin, comparing her talent to legendary actors like Madhuri Dixit. The supporting cast includes Archana, Sampath Raj, Kasthuri, Madhan Bob, and others. Filmed in Bengaluru, Chennai, and Pondicherry, Break Fast is expected to release between December and January.
The movie also reunites Gandhi with composer GV Prakash Kumar and lyricist Vairamuthu. Gandhi reveals that the music was composed during a trip to Bali, with GV Prakash completing the songs in just three days. He confidently predicts that the album will be among the year’s best. The film's cinematography is handled by MV Panneer Selvam, and editing is by R Ramar. Gandhi reflects on the experience, saying, “It was wonderful to be back on set. I already miss it.”
