The trailer for Vettaiyan, starring Rajinikanth, was released recently, showcasing a narrative centered on encounter killings. Following its launch, K Palanivelu from Madurai filed a public interest litigation (PIL) with the Madras High Court's Madurai Bench, calling for the removal or muting of the dialogue referring to a "renowned encounter specialist" and statements implying that encounters serve as both punishment and preventive action.
The petitioner argues that the film glorifies extrajudicial killings and has requested the Central Board of Film Certification to re-examine the film. Additionally, Palanivelu is seeking to halt the film's screening until these changes are implemented. The division bench of the court has accepted the petition and issued a notice regarding the matter.
Vettaiyan, set for release on October 10, features a star-studded cast, including Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, and Manju Warrier. The film presents a clash of ideologies on the concept of encounter killings, with Rajinikanth portraying a pro-encounter policeman and Amitabh Bachchan opposing the notion.
The film's technical team includes composer Anirudh, cinematographer SR Kathir, and editor Philomin Raj, and it will be available in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada.
