Filmmaker Thiagarajan Kumararaja has officially announced his third feature film, titled Pocket Novel, marking his return to direction after a seven year gap. His previous film, Super Deluxe, received critical acclaim and national recognition, raising expectations for his next project.
Pocket Novel reunites Kumararaja with actor Vijay Sethupathi, who played a pivotal role in Super Deluxe. Vijay Sethupathi won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in that film, strengthening the creative partnership between the director and the actor. Their collaboration has been widely appreciated for its unconventional narrative style and layered storytelling.
The upcoming film is described as an action thriller and is currently being shot in Chennai. The makers have indicated that the project will be released in multiple languages, suggesting a wider audience reach across regional markets. Although the official release date has not yet been confirmed, industry observers expect further announcements in the coming months.
Pocket Novel features a strong ensemble cast. Kannada actor and filmmaker Raj B. Shetty will make his Tamil cinema debut with this project. Known for his performance in Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana, Raj B. Shetty is reportedly set to portray the primary antagonist. His inclusion has generated interest, given his reputation for intense and nuanced roles.
Actress Malavika Mohanan will star opposite Vijay Sethupathi, marking a new on screen pairing. Malavika Mohanan has worked across Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi cinema and continues to expand her filmography with diverse roles. Veteran actor Kishore has also joined the cast in a significant role, adding further depth to the ensemble.
While details regarding the music director and technical crew have not yet been officially announced, expectations remain high due to Kumararaja’s track record of collaborating with strong creative teams. His previous films have been noted for distinctive visual treatment, innovative screenplay structures and bold thematic exploration.
The announcement of Pocket Novel has been welcomed by fans who have awaited the director’s return since 2019. Kumararaja is known for crafting unconventional narratives that challenge mainstream storytelling norms in Tamil cinema. With Vijay Sethupathi leading the project and a diverse cast supporting him, the film is already positioned as one of the anticipated releases in the coming production cycle.
As filming progresses, the makers are expected to share more details regarding the storyline, music and release schedule. For now, Pocket Novel stands as a major upcoming project that marks Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s return to feature filmmaking after seven years.
