The much-anticipated trailer for Viduthalai Part 2, directed by Vetrimaaran, was unveiled on Tuesday during a special trailer and audio launch event. The trailer places a strong emphasis on Perumal Vaathiyaar, played by Vijay Sethupathi, chronicling his journey from being a workers' union leader to becoming a left-wing brigand feared by the government. The narrative alternates between the flashback sequences of Perumal’s evolution and a present-day police manhunt led by Kumaresan, portrayed by Soori.
The two-and-a-half-minute glimpse is enriched with impactful lines like "A leader without an ideology will only create fans, which won’t lead to meaningful progress." The film continues to explore themes of ideology, leadership, and rebellion against systemic oppression.
Viduthalai Part 1, which released last year, tackled the theme of police brutality and received widespread acclaim for its intense storytelling. Most of Viduthalai Part 2 was shot alongside the first part, but additional filming and extensive postproduction delayed its release.
The film features a stellar cast, including Vijay Sethupathi, Soori, Manju Warrier, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Chethan, Bhavani Sre, Rajiv Menon, Ilavarasu, Balaji Sakthivel, and others, all reprising their roles from the first part.
On the technical front, Viduthalai Part 2 boasts music by Ilaiyaraaja, cinematography by R Velraj, and editing by R Ramar. Produced by RS Infotainment and Grass Root Film Company, the film was also showcased at the Rotterdam Film Festival.
Viduthalai Part 2 is set to release in theatres on December 20.
