Directed by Vetrimaaran, Vidhuthalai was a massive success when it was released in 2021, with actor Soori playing the lead role and Vijay Sethupathi in a key supporting role. The film was well-received both critically and commercially. Following the success of the first part, the highly anticipated second part, Vidhuthalai 2, is set to release on the 20th of this month. The film stars Prakash Raj, Chethan, Manju Warrier, Balaji Sakthivel, and others in pivotal roles. The music is composed by Ilaiyaraaja, and the film has already generated significant buzz.
As the release date approaches, Vijay Sethupathi is heavily involved in the promotion of the film. In a recent interview with a Telugu YouTube channel, he was asked about the underperformance of some recent big Tamil films, including Kanguva. Responding to the question, Sethupathi said, "I am here to promote Vidhuthalai 2, so why are these unrelated questions being asked? No one makes films to fail. We make films hoping they will succeed. Failure is a part of every actor's career, and it's something that happens to everyone. I, too, went through a phase where I didn’t have a hit for a few years, and I was heavily criticized during that time. This happens to everyone in the film industry."
He further added, "Before releasing a film, we test it with others to get feedback, make improvements, and bring the best version to the screen. Some films succeed, and others don't — it’s all in the hands of the audience. If a film doesn’t succeed, we learn from it and correct our mistakes. Success and failure can happen to anyone, and this is something that happens in every industry."
Sethupathi's response reflects his professional outlook and understanding of the film industry, gaining support and appreciation from fans and colleagues alike.
