Renowned Telugu lyricist Tirumala Pallerlamudi Kulasekhar has tragically passed away at the age of 53. On Tuesday, Kulasekhar was found in critical condition by the roadside near Ameerpet, Hyderabad. Concerned bystanders alerted authorities, and he was rushed to Gandhi Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. A nurse at the hospital recognized him and shared the heartbreaking news with the public.
Born in 1971 in Simhachalam, Andhra Pradesh, Kulasekhar initially began his career as a journalist before making his way into cinema. His talent for writing lyrics was discovered by director Teja and media mogul Ramoji Rao, leading to his breakthrough in the film Chitram in 2000. This love story became a cult classic and marked the start of his successful career as a lyricist.
Kulasekhar’s lyrical contributions to the Telugu film industry include some of the most iconic songs in recent memory. He penned chart-topping tracks for films such as Jayam, Santhosham, Nuvvu Nenu, Gharshana, Bommarillu, and Dil. His notable works include the folk anthem “Ranu Ranu Antune Chinnado” from Jayam and the evergreen “Gajuvaka Pilla” from Nuvvu Nenu. His patriotic song “Desham Manade Tejam Manade” remains a popular anthem during Independence Day celebrations.
A frequent collaborator of composer R.P. Patnaik, the duo created several hit songs that resonated deeply with audiences. Despite his success, Kulasekhar’s career faced a setback after his directorial debut Premalekha Raasa failed at the box office. This, coupled with ongoing health struggles, legal challenges, and complications from diabetes, led him to withdraw from the film industry after 2013. Kulasekhar was also involved in a theft case in 2013.
Kulasekhar’s untimely passing has left the Telugu film fraternity in mourning. His work and legacy will be remembered fondly by fans and the film industry alike.
