Rescue operations are in full swing in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, where nine individuals have been trapped in a coal mine at 3 Kilo, Umrangso, since yesterday. The incident occurred when the miners became trapped in the unregulated mine, and efforts to reach them have been ongoing under challenging conditions.
A coordinated response has been launched, with teams from the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other agencies mobilized to the site. The authorities are working tirelessly to extract the victims safely, with operations complicated by the difficult terrain and unstable conditions in the mine.
Local authorities have been closely monitoring the situation and providing support to the rescue teams, ensuring the necessary resources are in place for a successful operation. Emergency medical teams are also on standby to treat any injuries once the victims are rescued.
This incident underscores the ongoing risks associated with unregulated coal mining in the region, which has long been a concern due to unsafe working conditions and lack of oversight. Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the accident and take further steps to prevent such occurrences in the future. The situation continues to develop, and efforts are being made to bring the trapped miners to safety.
