Bharti Airtel has announced a new range of postpaid plans that include a complimentary international roaming benefit for customers travelling abroad. The new plans start at Rs 499 and will be available to customers from October 8, 2026.
Under the new offering, Airtel postpaid customers will receive one international trip with free roaming every year for each eligible SIM. The complimentary roaming package includes 5GB of mobile data, 60 minutes of calls, 25 outgoing SMS and free incoming SMS.
The roaming benefit is valid for five days. Airtel has also provided customers with flexibility over when they use the benefit. Instead of automatically starting the roaming pack when the customer activates the postpaid plan, users can activate the five day benefit when they actually need it during an international trip.
This feature could be useful for customers who travel abroad only occasionally because they can choose the timing of the complimentary roaming benefit instead of having the validity period begin before their journey.
The free international roaming benefit is also available on Airtel family postpaid plans. Each SIM included in an eligible family plan receives its own one free international roaming trip every year. This means family members do not have to share a single roaming benefit.
Airtel has introduced six new postpaid plans under the revised portfolio. The entry level plan costs Rs 499 per month and is designed for an individual connection. It includes unlimited data and calling, spam and fraud prevention, Xstream Play Premium and Google One, in addition to the annual international roaming benefit.
The Rs 749 family plan supports two SIMs and includes subscriptions such as Amazon Prime, JioHotstar, Xstream Play Premium and Google One.
The Rs 1,049 family plan supports three SIMs and adds Apple iCloud Plus and Apple Music along with other entertainment and cloud services.
The Rs 1,249 plan supports four SIMs and includes Apple iCloud Plus, Apple Music, Amazon Prime, JioHotstar, Xstream Play Premium and Google One.
Another four SIM family plan is priced at Rs 1,449 and includes Netflix Basic along with Apple iCloud Plus, Apple Music, Amazon Prime, JioHotstar, Xstream Play Premium and Google One.
The highest priced plan in the new lineup costs Rs 1,799 and supports five SIMs. It includes Netflix Standard, Apple iCloud Plus, Apple Music, Amazon Prime, JioHotstar, Xstream Play Premium and Google One.
All the new plans include unlimited data and calling along with network level protection against spam and fraudulent links. Airtel is also offering access to its Postpaid Advantage Club, which provides customers with additional experiences such as comedy shows, movie premieres and concerts.
The introduction of free international roaming comes at a time when telecom operators are competing to add more benefits to postpaid plans. International roaming has traditionally been offered as an additional service, with customers purchasing separate roaming packs when travelling outside India.
Airtel's new approach bundles a limited roaming benefit into the monthly postpaid plans. The company says the complimentary pack is intended to provide customers with greater convenience while travelling internationally.
However, customers should note that the free benefit is limited to one trip per year for each SIM. The roaming pack also has a five day validity period and includes specific limits for data, calls and outgoing SMS.
The 5GB data allowance can be used during the five day period, while customers receive 60 minutes of calls and 25 outgoing SMS. Incoming SMS messages are free under the complimentary package.
Customers travelling for longer periods may need to purchase an additional international roaming pack after the five day benefit is exhausted or after the included data, call or SMS limits have been used.
Airtel has not described the benefit as unlimited international roaming. Therefore, customers should check the applicable roaming rates and additional pack options before travelling abroad, particularly for longer trips.
The new plans will be available from October 8, 2026. Existing Airtel customers using older postpaid plans can upgrade to the new plans through the Airtel App or by visiting an Airtel store. Existing Airtel prepaid customers can also move to postpaid through the available Airtel channels.
Customers using another telecom operator can request a switch to Airtel Postpaid through the Airtel App or by visiting an Airtel store.
The starting price of Rs 499 is applicable to the individual postpaid plan. Family plans have higher monthly rentals because they cover multiple SIM connections and provide additional bundled subscriptions.
According to reports, Airtel has also increased the pricing of its postpaid plans by Rs 50 as part of the revised portfolio. The new lineup therefore combines a tariff adjustment with additional benefits such as international roaming, unlimited data and calling, security features and entertainment subscriptions.
For customers who travel internationally once a year, the complimentary five day roaming package could provide additional value compared with purchasing a separate roaming pack. However, the overall value of each plan will depend on how frequently the customer travels, the number of family connections required and the entertainment subscriptions they use.
The family structure is another notable part of the new offering. Because the roaming benefit is linked to each SIM, every member of an eligible family plan receives an individual annual benefit. A five SIM family plan, for example, provides one complimentary international roaming trip for each of the five connections.
Airtel is also positioning the new plans as more than a roaming offer. The plans combine mobile connectivity with entertainment, cloud storage, security features and other services. Higher priced plans provide access to additional subscriptions, including Amazon Prime, JioHotstar, Apple Music, Apple iCloud Plus and Netflix, depending on the selected plan.
The company said its Fast Lane technology on 5G is also part of the postpaid experience. The plans are designed to provide customers with faster network access along with unlimited data and calling.
The launch is significant for India's telecom market because international roaming is increasingly becoming part of premium postpaid offerings. The move also follows similar efforts by other telecom operators to provide roaming benefits to customers.
For Airtel users, the main point to remember is that the new benefit is not a blanket waiver of all international roaming charges. It is a specific complimentary five day package that provides 5GB of data, 60 minutes of calls, 25 outgoing SMS and free incoming SMS.
Customers should therefore check the supported roaming destination, activation process and any additional charges before travelling. The availability and terms of international roaming services can depend on the destination and applicable operator arrangements.
The new Airtel postpaid plans will officially become available from October 8, 2026. Customers can select a plan based on their individual or family requirements and the additional subscriptions included.
With the new plans, Airtel is combining annual international roaming with unlimited connectivity, security features and entertainment benefits. The offer is likely to be most relevant to postpaid customers who make occasional overseas trips and want a limited roaming benefit included with their regular mobile plan.
