The Delhi Government has approved two new heritage conservation schemes under its initiative titled Our Monuments Our Pride. The programmes are designed to encourage the preservation of historical monuments through public participation while promoting tourism and cultural awareness across the national capital.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the initiative and said the government aims to protect Delhi's rich historical and cultural heritage by involving private organisations in conservation efforts. Under the new schemes, eligible private institutions and organisations will be allowed to adopt selected heritage monuments and participate in their restoration and maintenance.
According to the government, financial assistance of up to Rs 2 crore will be provided for approved restoration and conservation projects. The funding is intended to support activities that improve the condition of heritage structures while ensuring that restoration work follows established conservation standards.
The initiative seeks to create greater awareness about the importance of preserving historical sites and to encourage collaboration between the government, private organisations and the public. In a message shared on social media, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that every generation has experienced Delhi differently, with some learning about the city's historical monuments through books while others have had the opportunity to visit them in person.
