The Delhi High Court has sought a response from the Central Government in connection with a petition related to the suspension of social media accounts associated with the Cockroach Janta Party on the platform X. The matter came before the court after petitioner Abhijeet Dipke challenged the blocking and suspension of the party’s online accounts.
According to reports, the petitioner argued before the court that the suspension of the social media accounts affected freedom of expression and political communication on digital platforms. The plea reportedly requested restoration of the accounts and sought clarification regarding the legal basis on which the action was taken.
During the hearing, the Delhi High Court issued notice to the Central Government and asked for its response in the matter. The court also referred the issue to the review committee constituted under the Information Technology Rules for further examination. The committee is expected to review whether the blocking action complied with existing legal procedures and regulations.
The case has drawn attention because it involves questions related to online speech, digital platform regulation and the powers exercised under India’s Information Technology laws.
