The India Meteorological Department has predicted an early arrival of the southwest monsoon over parts of the south Bay of Bengal and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands this year. According to the latest forecast issued by the weather department, the monsoon is expected to advance into the region by the end of the current week, nearly five to six days ahead of its normal schedule.

The southwest monsoon is one of the most important seasonal weather systems affecting India. It plays a major role in agriculture, water supply, power generation, and the overall economy. Every year, the arrival and progress of the monsoon are closely monitored by farmers, businesses, and government agencies across the country.

Normally, the southwest monsoon reaches the Andaman and Nicobar region around May 22 before gradually advancing toward the Indian mainland. However, the latest forecast suggests that weather conditions are becoming favourable for an earlier onset this year.
