Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a special yoga demonstration by Slovak schoolchildren during his official visit to Bratislava, Slovakia, ahead of the upcoming International Yoga Day celebrations. The event was also attended by Slovak President Peter Pellegrini and showcased the growing popularity of yoga among young people outside India.

During the programme, students from local schools performed various yoga postures and routines, demonstrating their understanding of the practice and its benefits. The event highlighted the increasing global acceptance of yoga as a tool for physical fitness, mental well-being and overall health.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his appreciation for the students' participation and enthusiasm. Sharing his observations, he noted that it was encouraging to see young people embracing yoga and incorporating it into their daily lives. He also emphasized that yoga continues to serve as a bridge between cultures, helping people from different countries connect through a common pursuit of wellness.

The demonstration took place as countries around the world prepare to observe International Yoga Day, which is celebrated annually on June 21. Since its adoption by the United Nations in 2014, International Yoga Day has grown into a global event, with millions of people participating in yoga sessions across continents.

During his visit, PM Modi and President Pellegrini interacted with participants and observed the performances presented by the students. The event reflected the cultural exchanges that often accompany high-level diplomatic visits and highlighted the role of soft power in strengthening international relationships.

Yoga, which originated in ancient India, has become one of the country's most recognized cultural contributions to the world. Over the years, it has gained widespread acceptance due to its benefits for physical health, stress management and mental balance. Educational institutions in several countries have also introduced yoga-related activities as part of wellness programmes for students.

Observers noted that the participation of Slovak schoolchildren demonstrated the increasing influence of yoga beyond India's borders. Such events also contribute to stronger people-to-people connections between nations by promoting shared values related to health, discipline and personal development.

Prime Minister Modi has consistently promoted yoga on international platforms and has encouraged its adoption as a means of improving public health. During previous overseas visits, he has often participated in or attended yoga-related events to highlight its universal appeal.

The yoga demonstration in Bratislava comes at a time when preparations are underway for International Yoga Day celebrations across the globe. Governments, educational institutions, community organizations and wellness groups are expected to organize large-scale events to mark the occasion.

Diplomatic analysts believe that cultural activities such as yoga demonstrations help strengthen bilateral ties by fostering goodwill and mutual understanding. The event in Slovakia served as an example of how cultural traditions can contribute positively to international engagement.

As International Yoga Day approaches, the participation of Slovak students has drawn attention to yoga's expanding global presence and its role in encouraging healthy lifestyles. The event also underscored the continuing cultural connections between India and Slovakia through shared appreciation for wellness and education.
