The Supreme Court of India on Monday stayed the operation of a Madras High Court order that had directed the Tamil Nadu government to stop the slaughter of cows and calves in the state. The interim relief was granted while the apex court agreed to examine the legal issues raised in the case.
The matter came before a Bench of the Supreme Court after a challenge was made against the Madras High Court's directions. After considering the submissions made during the hearing, the Supreme Court decided to keep the High Court's order in abeyance until further proceedings.
With the stay in place, the directions issued by the Madras High Court will not be implemented until the Supreme Court delivers a final decision or passes further orders. The apex court's interim order does not determine the merits of the dispute but temporarily suspends the operation of the High Court's ruling.
