Our troops exercised restraint initially but responded decisively when the firing continued," said a senior army officer stationed in the region.

The Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir witnessed renewed tension as the Pakistan Army violated the ceasefire for the sixth consecutive day, targeting Indian forward posts with unprovoked firing and shelling. In response, the Indian Army carried out a strong and proportionate retaliation, inflicting damage on Pakistani posts and silencing enemy fire.

According to official sources, the incident occurred in sectors including Poonch and Rajouri, where intermittent firing started during the early hours and continued into the afternoon. Mortar shells were also reportedly used in some areas. While there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities among Indian forces or civilians, precautionary measures have been taken to protect villagers in the border regions.

The Indian Army remains on high alert and is closely monitoring Pakistani movements across the LoC. "We are fully prepared to respond to any provocation. Our troops exercised restraint initially but responded decisively when the firing continued," said a senior army officer stationed in the region.

History of the Ceasefire Agreement

India and Pakistan entered into a fresh ceasefire agreement in February 2021, aiming to maintain peace along the border. The agreement brought months of calm after years of frequent skirmishes. However, recent violations from the Pakistani side have disrupted the fragile peace, raising security concerns for both military and civilian populations living along the LoC.

Defence analysts suggest that these repeated violations may be aimed at diverting attention from internal instability in Pakistan and pushing infiltrators across the border under the cover of gunfire.

Civilian Impact and Precautionary Measures

With continuous firing in border villages, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have taken steps to move vulnerable populations to safer zones. Local administrations have activated emergency shelters, and schools near the LoC remain shut until further notice.

“We heard loud explosions this morning and have been advised to stay indoors,” said a local resident of a village near the LoC. Many families have already been shifted to government-run relief centers.

Political and Strategic Reactions

The Ministry of Defence has condemned the violations, reaffirming India’s commitment to peace but asserting that any aggression will be met with equal force. Political leaders from Jammu and Kashmir have also expressed concern and urged the central government to take diplomatic and strategic steps to ensure long-term peace along the border.

Conclusion

While the situation remains tense, the Indian Army’s prompt and measured response has sent a clear message across the border. With repeated ceasefire violations now drawing international attention, India's defence forces remain vigilant and committed to protecting national sovereignty and the safety of civilians in the region.
