Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti has reiterated her call for peaceful dialogue between India and Pakistan to resolve the longstanding Kashmir issue. Speaking at a recent event, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir stressed the need for both nations to engage in talks to halt the ongoing violence and bloodshed in the region.
Mufti argued that the only way to bring lasting peace to Kashmir is through meaningful diplomatic engagement between India and Pakistan. She highlighted the severe toll that continued violence has taken on the lives of civilians and security personnel, urging both governments to prioritize the well-being of the Kashmiri people over political differences.
The PDP chief also emphasized that peace cannot be achieved through military means alone and called for a political solution that includes dialogue with all stakeholders. According to her, Kashmir’s future depends on cooperation between the two neighboring nations, and prolonged conflict will only cause further suffering.
Mufti's statement has reignited the conversation around the need for India-Pakistan talks, a topic that has seen little progress in recent years amid heightened tensions. She also pointed out that, historically, dialogue has helped de-escalate conflicts and bring temporary relief to the troubled region.
The call for talks comes at a time when the Kashmir Valley has been witnessing increased tensions, and Mufti's message is seen as a plea to both governments to move beyond their differences and focus on peace-building efforts.
As the Kashmir issue continues to be a point of contention in India-Pakistan relations, Mufti's appeal underlines the urgent need for diplomatic channels to be reopened, in the hopes of ending the cycle of violence in the region.
