Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir:

An encounter between Indian security forces and suspected terrorists is in progress in the remote forested areas of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir. The operation began in the early hours of the day after intelligence agencies alerted local authorities about the possible presence of heavily armed militants in the region.

A joint team of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a coordinated search operation in the area. As the forces approached a suspected hideout, they came under fire, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire. The militants are believed to be hiding in a densely forested zone, making the operation more complex due to limited visibility and difficult terrain.

Officials have confirmed that additional reinforcements have been deployed to prevent the militants from escaping. Drones and surveillance equipment are being used to track movement, and helicopters are on standby if air support is needed. The security perimeter has been expanded to cover nearby villages, and movement of civilians has been restricted to ensure safety.

A senior police officer monitoring the operation stated, “We received credible inputs about terrorist movement in the area. Our teams launched a search operation, which led to contact. The operation is still ongoing, and we are taking all necessary precautions to ensure civilian safety.”

Kishtwar, which had been relatively quiet in recent years compared to other districts of the Kashmir Valley, has witnessed a resurgence of terrorist activity in recent months. Intelligence reports suggest an increase in infiltration attempts from across the Line of Control (LoC), and security forces have heightened vigilance across the region.

Residents of nearby villages have reported hearing gunfire and have been asked to remain indoors. Medical teams and ambulances have been stationed at strategic points in case of emergencies. Local authorities are also maintaining communication with village heads to provide updates and ensure calm.

Union Home Ministry sources have indicated that this encounter could be linked to a larger network of militants operating in south and central Kashmir, with possible cross-border support. Investigations are underway to establish the identity and affiliations of the terrorists involved.

Political leaders in the region have called for swift and effective action against those trying to disturb peace in Jammu and Kashmir. While the situation remains tense, security forces remain confident of neutralising the threat in the coming hours.

As the operation unfolds, the nation watches closely. The outcome of this encounter will be crucial in understanding the current security dynamics in Kishtwar and surrounding areas.
