National Conference (NC) leader Farooq Abdullah has once again pressed for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, accusing the central government of undermining the region’s autonomy and rights.

National Conference (NC) leader Farooq Abdullah has once again pressed for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, accusing the central government of undermining the region’s autonomy and rights. Abdullah, speaking to the media, emphasized that the people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve to have their statehood restored, a move that would help bring back peace and stability to the region.

He further took strong exception to the government’s handling of illegal Rohingya migrants, alleging that the central government is providing support to the Rohingya community, which he believes poses a security threat to the region. Abdullah’s comments come in the wake of reports suggesting that the government has been providing assistance to Rohingyas living in certain areas of Jammu, which has sparked concerns among local residents.

Abdullah’s statement has reignited the debate over the status of Jammu and Kashmir, which was bifurcated into two Union Territories in 2019, with the region losing its special status. The demand for statehood has been a central issue for several political leaders in Jammu and Kashmir, including Abdullah, who has long been a vocal critic of the BJP-led government’s policies in the region.

The remarks have also drawn criticism from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has defended its stance on the Rohingya issue, claiming that the government is committed to securing the country’s borders and ensuring the safety of its citizens. The BJP has also rejected calls for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, stating that the region is on the path to development under the current administration.

He further took strong exception to the government’s handling of illegal Rohingya migrants, alleging that the central government is providing support to the Rohingya community, which he believes poses a security threat to the region.
