Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, while addressing the Assembly, revealed that the Union Territory has seen a massive influx of tourists in the last two years, recording an astonishing 4.40 crore visitors, including 1.20 lakh foreign tourists. This surge marks one of the highest tourism figures in the history of J&K, signaling a strong revival of the region’s tourism industry post-pandemic.
The government attributed this remarkable growth to improved infrastructure, enhanced security measures, and aggressive tourism promotion campaigns. The administration has focused on developing world-class facilities, restoring heritage sites, and introducing new adventure tourism activities to attract both domestic and international visitors.
Officials highlighted that the growing number of tourists has significantly contributed to Jammu and Kashmir's economy, generating thousands of jobs and boosting local businesses, including hotels, handicrafts, and transport services. Popular destinations like Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Vaishno Devi, and Srinagar witnessed record-breaking footfall.
Furthermore, the government is actively working on new tourism policies, including the development of eco-tourism, winter sports, and rural tourism projects to sustain this momentum. The Chief Minister reaffirmed that efforts are being made to ensure the safety and comfort of tourists while preserving the natural beauty of the region.
The rise in foreign tourists indicates growing global confidence in Jammu and Kashmir’s security and hospitality. With the tourism industry witnessing a revival, authorities are optimistic about attracting even larger numbers in the coming years, strengthening the UT’s reputation as one of India’s most sought-after travel destinations.
