Children were also taught about the daily challenges faced by soldiers and the importance of the armed forces in maintaining peace and security.

Ahead of the festival of Raksha Bandhan, students in Jammu have come together to express their respect and gratitude for the Indian Armed Forces through a unique initiative. Under the theme ‘Operation Sindoor’, students from various schools and educational institutions have designed and created handcrafted Rakhis that symbolise the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of soldiers posted across the country, particularly in high-risk and border areas.

The initiative, organised by local educational groups and supported by teachers and parents, aims to strengthen the bond between civilians and the military by involving children in a meaningful act of gratitude. Each Rakhi created under ‘Operation Sindoor’ features national symbols, patriotic colours, and messages of encouragement for the armed forces. Many Rakhis also bear handwritten notes and wishes from the students, expressing their admiration and thanks to the jawans who protect the nation under challenging conditions.

The name ‘Operation Sindoor’ itself was chosen to reflect the significance of Raksha Bandhan, where a sister ties a Rakhi on her brother’s wrist as a mark of love and protection. In this case, the Rakhis are symbolic of the nation's support and respect for the protectors of the country. The red colour traditionally associated with sindoor also symbolises strength, sacrifice, and commitment, qualities deeply embedded in the Indian military ethos.

School authorities involved in the project have stated that this initiative not only promotes creativity but also nurtures a sense of national pride among the students. Children were also taught about the daily challenges faced by soldiers and the importance of the armed forces in maintaining peace and security. This educational aspect of the project ensures that the activity goes beyond art and craft, creating a lasting impact on young minds.

The Rakhis are being collected and packaged with the help of local volunteers and will be sent to military camps and border outposts before Raksha Bandhan. Defence officials have welcomed the initiative and expressed their appreciation, stating that such gestures from civilians, especially children, boost morale and reinforce the emotional bond between the army and the people it serves.

Parents have also expressed pride in their children’s participation in the initiative, noting that it teaches them to value service, sacrifice, and community. Many students said they felt proud and emotional while preparing the Rakhis, hoping that their small token of love would bring a smile to a soldier’s face.

In conclusion, the ‘Operation Sindoor’ Rakhi initiative by Jammu students is a powerful reminder of the role civilians, even young students, can play in honouring and supporting the armed forces. As the country prepares to celebrate Raksha Bandhan, this act of gratitude reflects the unbreakable bond between the citizens and the protectors of the nation.
