The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed strong criticism over the absence of any resolution regarding Article 370, which once granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Party leaders argue that the discussions around merely restoring the region's statehood, without addressing the core issue of Article 370, represent a major setback for Jammu and Kashmir's political and constitutional autonomy.
According to the PDP, the central government’s decision to reduce the demand to mere statehood reflects a failure to address the aspirations of the people. Party officials argue that Jammu and Kashmir's unique identity and autonomy, enshrined under Article 370, must be restored to bring lasting peace and prosperity to the region. The PDP maintains that the dilution of such an important constitutional provision has left many in the region feeling politically disempowered.
The PDP's statement also reflects growing frustration over what it sees as a lack of meaningful dialogue between the central government and regional political stakeholders. They warn that ignoring the broader demand for the restoration of Article 370 could lead to further alienation of the people in Jammu and Kashmir.
The party has called for renewed efforts to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s political autonomy, emphasizing that the issue of Article 370 remains central to any long-term resolution. The PDP remains steadfast in its demand for full restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's special status, which was abrogated in August 2019.
