Bhaderwah, Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed the season’s first snowfall at the scenic tourist destination of Guldanda, bringing immense joy to residents and visitors alike. Situated at an altitude of 9,555 feet in the Doda district, Guldanda is one of the most visited high-altitude locations in the Chenab Valley region. The first snowfall of the season has blanketed the entire area in white, marking the onset of winter and signaling a promising start for the tourism season.
According to local residents, the snowfall began in the early hours and continued for several hours, covering the meadows, pine forests, and surrounding peaks in thick layers of snow. Tourists who were already present in Bhaderwah rushed to Guldanda to witness the mesmerizing sight of snowflakes falling over the lush landscapes. The fresh layer of snow has transformed the valley into a breathtaking scene reminiscent of a fairy tale.
The onset of snowfall has also brought relief to the people after weeks of dry and cold weather conditions. Farmers in the region welcomed the change, as the snowfall helps maintain soil moisture and supports water availability for the coming season. Local shopkeepers and hoteliers are hopeful that this early snowfall will draw more tourists in the coming weeks, boosting the local economy.
Guldanda, located nearly 12 kilometers from Bhaderwah town, is known for its panoramic views of the Kailash and Ashapati mountain ranges. The area remains one of the top attractions for trekkers, nature lovers, and adventure enthusiasts. With the first snowfall, visitors have started arriving from Jammu, Srinagar, and even neighboring states to experience the beauty of the snow-covered hills.
The Bhaderwah Development Authority (BDA) and the tourism department have begun preparations to promote winter tourism activities such as skiing, snowboarding, and snow trekking. Local guides and tour operators have reported an increase in inquiries for upcoming winter trips. Authorities have also urged visitors to follow safety guidelines, as roads leading to higher altitudes can become slippery due to the accumulation of snow and ice.
Meanwhile, the local administration has deployed snow clearance teams on key routes connecting Bhaderwah to Doda and other areas to ensure smooth movement of vehicles. Power and communication services are being closely monitored to prevent any disruptions caused by the weather conditions.
Residents expressed their excitement as children and families stepped out to enjoy the first snow of the season. Many tourists were seen capturing photographs and videos of the scenic beauty, while hotels and homestays reported a rise in bookings following the snowfall.
Meteorological officials have predicted that more snow and rain are likely in higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir over the next few days. The temperature in Guldanda and surrounding regions has dropped sharply, signaling the full arrival of the winter season.
With the season’s first snowfall, Bhaderwah once again emerges as a winter paradise, inviting travelers to experience the charm and serenity of the snow-clad Himalayas.
