Security remained heightened in several parts of Kashmir on Wednesday as authorities continued restrictions for the third straight day following protests linked to reports circulating online about the alleged killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Officials confirmed that precautionary measures were enforced in sensitive areas to prevent escalation and ensure public safety.

According to local administration sources in Srinagar, gatherings were restricted in certain districts after demonstrations erupted earlier in the week. Protesters had assembled in parts of the valley reacting to unverified claims regarding Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. However, there was no official confirmation from Iranian authorities or credible international agencies supporting the reports of his death. Security officials emphasized that misinformation on social media platforms contributed significantly to public anxiety.

In response, district administrations imposed restrictions under preventive security protocols. Additional police and paramilitary personnel were deployed in vulnerable zones. Checkpoints were set up in key intersections, and security patrols were intensified to monitor movement. Authorities stated that the steps were precautionary in nature and aimed at preventing any potential law and order disturbances.

Mobile internet services were temporarily suspended in select localities to curb the spread of unverified information. Officials appealed to residents not to rely on rumours and to follow updates only from official government communications. Schools and business establishments in some areas remained closed as a safety measure, while public transport services operated on a limited basis.

Community leaders and civil society representatives called for calm and urged people to verify facts before reacting. Senior police officials reiterated that maintaining peace was the top priority and that strict action would be taken against individuals found spreading false information. They added that normalcy would be restored gradually depending on the security assessment.

The situation remained largely under control on Wednesday, with no major incidents reported from the valley. Authorities continued reviewing the situation on a day to day basis and assured that essential services were being maintained without disruption. Residents were advised to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and avoid participating in unlawful gatherings.

Meanwhile, international observers noted that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei continues to serve as the Supreme Leader of Iran, and no official announcement had indicated any change in leadership. Officials in Kashmir reiterated that actions taken locally were preventive and aimed at safeguarding public order rather than restricting civil freedoms.

The administration stated that restrictions would be eased once the situation stabilizes completely. Until then, security forces remain deployed to ensure peace and prevent the spread of misinformation. Authorities have once again appealed for restraint and responsible use of social media to avoid unnecessary tension in the region.
