Srinagar/New Delhi:

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has confirmed that three organisations in Jammu and Kashmir have officially disassociated themselves from the Hurriyat Conference, the separatist alliance once considered a powerful voice in the Valley’s political landscape. The announcement was made during a recent public address, highlighting the ongoing changes in Jammu and Kashmir’s political atmosphere since the abrogation of Article 370.

Shah stated that this development signals a waning influence of separatist ideologies in the region. According to sources, the organisations in question cited their interest in supporting peace, development, and integration with mainstream India as reasons for distancing themselves from Hurriyat’s separatist stance.

“The people of Jammu and Kashmir have seen the difference. Development has taken the driver’s seat, and peace is gradually restoring in the Valley. This disassociation is proof that the new direction is being embraced,” said Shah during his speech.

The Home Minister did not disclose the names of the three organisations but noted that this is part of a broader trend where several individuals and entities are now rejecting separatist narratives. Shah praised the youth of Jammu and Kashmir for their increasing participation in education, entrepreneurship, and democratic processes.

Political analysts say the move is a result of consistent government efforts to dismantle separatist networks by cutting off funding channels, increasing local engagement, and boosting security and infrastructure. The government has also initiated various development programs aimed at winning public trust and improving livelihoods.

Opposition parties have called for transparency on the identity and nature of these organisations, suggesting that the announcement be backed by official documentation. Meanwhile, locals in the region expressed mixed reactions — with some welcoming the shift toward peace, and others remaining skeptical about long-term outcomes.

As the situation in Jammu and Kashmir continues to evolve, the disassociation from the Hurriyat marks a notable milestone in the Centre’s Kashmir policy, potentially opening new avenues for political dialogue and socio-economic development.
