The Congress party has urged the Indian government to take a strong stand on the issue of minority rights in Bangladesh. In a statement, Congress leaders called on the Centre to prevail upon the Bangladesh government to ensure the safety and protection of religious minorities, especially Hindus, who have been reportedly subjected to violence and discrimination in recent months.
The party's call comes amid a surge in reports of attacks on minority communities, including the vandalization of temples and homes, as well as instances of social and political marginalization. Congress leaders have expressed concern over the worsening situation and called for immediate diplomatic action to safeguard the rights of these communities.
While India and Bangladesh share strong bilateral ties, Congress emphasized the need for the Indian government to raise the issue of minority protection during diplomatic dialogues with Dhaka. The Congress also urged for stronger international pressure to ensure that Bangladesh upholds its commitment to religious freedom and the protection of all citizens, regardless of faith.
The Congress party's appeal has sparked political debate, with some critics suggesting that the Indian government should prioritize domestic matters before intervening in the internal affairs of another nation, while others agree on the importance of standing up for human rights globally.
