Officials said the agreement aligns with India’s efforts to diversify its energy sources and transition toward cleaner fuels to support sustainable development.

India and the United Arab Emirates have taken a major step toward strengthening their strategic partnership following high level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The meeting resulted in a shared vision to expand bilateral trade to 200 billion dollars annually by 2032, reflecting the deepening economic and diplomatic ties between the two countries.

A key outcome of the discussions was the finalisation of a long term liquefied natural gas supply agreement. The LNG deal is expected to enhance India’s energy security by ensuring a stable supply of clean fuel, while also strengthening the UAE’s role as a reliable energy partner. Officials said the agreement aligns with India’s efforts to diversify its energy sources and transition toward cleaner fuels to support sustainable development.

Beyond trade and energy, the leaders also reviewed progress in strategic sectors such as defence cooperation, advanced technology, and infrastructure development. Both sides agreed to enhance collaboration in defence manufacturing, training, and joint exercises. The discussions highlighted the growing trust between the two nations and their shared interest in maintaining stability and security in the region.

Trade relations between India and the UAE have expanded rapidly in recent years, driven by comprehensive economic cooperation and increased investment flows. The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement has played a key role in boosting trade volumes and easing market access for businesses on both sides. Setting the 200 billion dollar target signals confidence in the long term potential of bilateral economic engagement.

The leaders also explored opportunities for cooperation in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and space technology. These sectors are seen as critical drivers of future growth and innovation. Joint investments and technology partnerships are expected to contribute to job creation and economic diversification in both countries.

India and the UAE share strong people to people ties, supported by a large Indian diaspora living and working in the Gulf nation. The leaders acknowledged the contribution of the Indian community to the UAE’s development and reiterated their commitment to safeguarding the welfare of expatriate workers. Enhanced mobility and skill development initiatives were also discussed as part of broader cooperation.

Nuclear energy cooperation was another area of interest during the talks. Both sides expressed intent to explore peaceful uses of nuclear technology, including research, safety practices, and capacity building. Such cooperation is expected to support India’s long term energy goals while reinforcing global standards for nuclear safety.

Officials said the meeting reaffirmed the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and the UAE, which has evolved into one of India’s most significant international relationships. Regular high level engagements and practical cooperation across sectors have contributed to mutual trust and shared prosperity.

The outcomes of the Modi Sheikh Mohamed meeting underline the expanding scope of India UAE relations, moving beyond traditional trade and energy ties toward a multidimensional partnership. With ambitious targets and concrete agreements in place, both countries are positioning themselves for sustained collaboration in the coming decade.
