India delivered a sharp response to Pakistan at the United Nations after Pakistan made allegations against India concerning human rights and the protection of civilians. Describing Pakistan’s comments as "grossly hypocritical," the Indian representative to the UN emphasized that Pakistan has no credentials to speak on issues related to civilian safety or human rights.
The exchange took place during a United Nations session where Pakistan’s envoy accused India of human rights violations, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir. In response, the Indian diplomat firmly rejected the accusations and said that Pakistan, which has a well-documented record of supporting terrorism and sheltering extremist groups, lacks the moral authority to speak on such matters.
"The country that speaks about civilian protection should first examine its own track record. Pakistan continues to provide safe havens for terrorists and has failed to take action against groups involved in cross-border attacks," the Indian representative said. He further highlighted that Pakistan’s actions have consistently endangered civilian lives, both within its borders and in neighboring countries, including India.
India also pointed out that the international community is well aware of Pakistan’s duplicity when it comes to terrorism and human rights. While speaking at global platforms, Pakistan projects concern for human rights, but on the ground, it has failed to ensure the safety of its own minorities and has been complicit in violent extremism.
The Indian diplomat cited numerous instances of Pakistan’s failure to prosecute those responsible for major terror attacks, including the 2008 Mumbai attacks, where the perpetrators continue to receive protection. He also criticized Pakistan for repeatedly raising the Kashmir issue at international forums despite knowing that the matter is internal to India.
India reiterated its long-standing position that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the country and that any issues related to it will be resolved within the framework of India's sovereignty and constitutional processes.
Political analysts note that India’s assertive response is in line with its evolving diplomatic approach, where it no longer shies away from directly confronting misinformation and accusations, especially on platforms like the United Nations. This latest rebuttal reflects India’s intent to hold Pakistan accountable for its actions and to expose what it views as attempts to divert attention from its internal problems by targeting India.
In conclusion, India’s strong words at the UN underscore a broader message: that the protection of civilians cannot be championed by countries that encourage or tolerate terrorism. India's response not only countered Pakistan’s allegations but also reinforced its own commitment to democratic values, rule of law, and regional peace.
