As debates continue in multilateral settings, India has maintained that constructive dialogue and adherence to bilateral agreements remain the appropriate channels for addressing outstanding issues.

India rejected allegations raised by Pakistan concerning Jammu and Kashmir during the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council held in Geneva. Speaking at the session, India’s representative Anupama Singh dismissed the claims as unfounded and described them as attempts to spread misinformation on an international platform.

Addressing the council, Singh stated that India categorically rejects the allegations made by Pakistan and supported by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. She asserted that repeated references to Jammu and Kashmir were politically motivated and did not reflect ground realities. According to India’s statement, such remarks amounted to propaganda and were intended to divert attention from other pressing concerns.

Reiterating India’s long standing position, Singh emphasised that Jammu and Kashmir was, is and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India. She underlined that constitutional and administrative measures undertaken in the region are matters of internal governance. India has consistently maintained that issues related to Jammu and Kashmir are domestic in nature and not subject to external interference.

The Indian representative also highlighted developmental progress in the Union Territory. She referred to increased budget allocations, infrastructure initiatives and governance reforms aimed at improving socio economic conditions. By drawing attention to development indicators, India sought to counter allegations raised during the session.

In her remarks, Singh criticised the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, stating that the grouping had allowed itself to be used to echo the views of a single member state. India has previously objected to references made by the OIC regarding Jammu and Kashmir, maintaining that such statements lack jurisdiction over its internal affairs.

Diplomatic exchanges between India and Pakistan on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir frequently arise at international forums, including sessions of the Human Rights Council. India has repeatedly asserted that cross border terrorism remains a major concern and that attempts to raise bilateral matters in multilateral bodies are unproductive.

The 61st session of the Human Rights Council provided a platform for member states to address human rights concerns and related geopolitical issues. India’s response formed part of its right of reply, a procedural mechanism that allows countries to respond to statements made by other delegations.

Officials note that India’s approach at international forums focuses on reaffirming its sovereignty and territorial integrity while highlighting governance and development measures undertaken in Jammu and Kashmir. The exchange reflects ongoing diplomatic tensions between the two neighbouring countries over the region.

As debates continue in multilateral settings, India has maintained that constructive dialogue and adherence to bilateral agreements remain the appropriate channels for addressing outstanding issues. The statement at the council underscores New Delhi’s continued emphasis on sovereignty, development and rejection of external commentary on its internal matters.
