Tel Aviv – Tensions in the Middle East have flared once again after a barrage of rockets was fired from Gaza into southern Israel late Sunday. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a stern warning, vowing a “strong and effective” response to what he described as a deliberate act of aggression.

The rocket attacks triggered multiple air raid sirens in towns near the Gaza border, forcing residents to seek shelter. While there were no reports of casualties, several buildings sustained minor damage. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that at least 15 rockets were launched, with some intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system.

Speaking at a press briefing, Netanyahu said, “We will not tolerate any threat to the security of Israeli citizens. Those responsible will face the full force of our defense capabilities.”

Initial assessments suggest that the attack was carried out by militant factions operating in the Gaza Strip, though no group immediately claimed responsibility. The incident comes amid heightened political tension in the region, with recent clashes at religious sites in Jerusalem and ongoing protests in Gaza.

In retaliation, the IDF carried out airstrikes on what it said were Hamas weapons manufacturing and storage facilities in Gaza. Israeli military officials stated that the objective was to neutralize immediate threats and deter further escalation.

The United Nations and several world leaders have expressed concern over the renewed hostilities and called for restraint on both sides. UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, urged both parties to avoid actions that could lead to a wider conflict.

This latest exchange of fire raises fears of a return to full-scale conflict, similar to past escalations in the region. Netanyahu's government, under domestic pressure to act decisively, has signaled that further provocations will be met with increasing military pressure.

As of now, both Israel and Gaza remain on high alert, with citizens on both sides bracing for what could be another tense chapter in the long-standing conflict.
