External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has raised concerns about the recent attacks on Hindus in Dhaka, Bangladesh, stressing that it is the responsibility of the Bangladesh government to ensure the safety and protection of its minority communities. Jaishankar’s remarks come in the wake of escalating violence against Hindus in various parts of Bangladesh, particularly in Dhaka, which has drawn widespread criticism from human rights organizations and foreign governments.
Speaking in response to the attacks, Jaishankar emphasized that India remains committed to the welfare of its citizens abroad, but also pointed out that the primary responsibility for the safety of minorities lies with the government of the host country. His statement underlines the need for Bangladesh to take swift and concrete action to prevent further violence and to protect its Hindu population from targeted attacks.
The attacks, which reportedly occurred during Durga Puja celebrations, have sparked widespread outrage both in Bangladesh and internationally. Several temples and Hindu households have been vandalized, and there have been reports of violence against individuals from the community. The incidents have brought attention to the security of religious minorities in Bangladesh, a country with a significant Hindu population.
The Indian government has urged Bangladesh to address these concerns and ensure that such attacks are investigated thoroughly. Jaishankar’s comments reflect India’s continued focus on the protection of its citizens abroad and its commitment to upholding religious freedoms. While India has not officially intervened in the matter, it continues to monitor the situation closely and maintain diplomatic communication with the Bangladeshi authorities.
As the situation unfolds, both governments are expected to engage in dialogue to ensure that such incidents do not recur and that the rights of religious minorities are safeguarded in Bangladesh.
