This summit, chaired by Russia, will see key global leaders gather to discuss pressing issues of multilateralism, global development, and security.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, from October 22-23, 2024. This summit, chaired by Russia, will see key global leaders gather to discuss pressing issues of multilateralism, global development, and security. The summit’s theme, "Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security," sets the stage for discussions on enhancing cooperation among BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa).

During his visit, PM Modi will engage in high-level meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other leaders from BRICS nations and invited countries. Modi's visit follows an invitation extended by President Putin in September, marking their second meeting this year after bilateral talks in Moscow in July.

This summit is significant not only for its theme but also as the first since BRICS' expansion to include new members such as Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, and the UAE. The event will host leaders from over 24 countries and feature discussions in the BRICS+ format, addressing collaborations with countries from the Global South.

The BRICS group, comprising around 41% of the world’s population and a significant share of global trade and GDP, has increasingly become a vital platform for emerging economies. The summit will focus on assessing past initiatives and outlining new opportunities for cooperation in areas such as economic development, climate change, and international security.
