Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler expressed his satisfaction after his team staged an impressive comeback to secure a 3-2 victory over Tottenham, ending a four-game winless streak and restoring some much-needed confidence. Brighton found themselves 2-0 down at halftime at the Amex Stadium, with Tottenham's Brennan Johnson and James Maddison striking early to give the visitors a commanding lead.
However, Brighton's fortunes changed dramatically in the second half. Yankuba Minteh's goal shortly after the break sparked the home side's fightback, bringing renewed hope to the Seagulls. The momentum continued when Georginio Rutter found the net moments later, leveling the match at 2-2. Rutter, who had been influential throughout the game, played a pivotal role in Brighton's winning goal. His deflected cross landed perfectly for Danny Welbeck, who slotted it home to complete the remarkable turnaround.
The win lifted the pressure off Hurzeler, who had faced criticism following a series of disappointing results. Speaking after the match, the German coach acknowledged the challenges his team had faced but was pleased with their response. "In the process, it is normal to have bad performances," Hurzeler told Sky Sports, emphasising the need to stay focused and continue developing as a team.
Hurzeler highlighted the importance of regaining confidence through hard work and learning from mistakes. "You have to focus on your own quality, and that is what I said to the team: focus on the process," he explained. He admitted that the team had struggled with self-belief recently but noted that being more ruthless in key moments, such as winning duels, helped them rediscover their confidence.
This comeback win not only boosted Brighton's morale but also demonstrated their resilience and determination to bounce back from adversity. Hurzeler's focus on rebuilding confidence and improving performance appears to be paying off as Brighton look to maintain their momentum in the coming fixtures.
