India has firmly responded to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) over its recent remarks on Jammu and Kashmir, calling for the international body to take a "long and hard look in the mirror" before making generalized statements. The Indian government has reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the country and criticized what it calls an unbalanced and selective approach by the UNHRC on human rights issues.
During a diplomatic address, India emphasized that global human rights assessments must be fair and based on facts rather than biased narratives. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted India's efforts in maintaining peace and stability in the region and stressed that any external interference in its internal matters is unacceptable.
India’s response comes in light of the UNHRC's repeated observations on Kashmir, which New Delhi has often dismissed as politically motivated. Officials pointed out that the council should focus on genuine human rights violations occurring worldwide rather than singling out a democratic nation like India.
The government further underscored the ongoing development efforts in Jammu and Kashmir, including economic initiatives, infrastructure projects, and improved governance aimed at ensuring the welfare of all residents. India maintains that its sovereignty over the region is non-negotiable and that its internal affairs should not be subject to international scrutiny based on incomplete or misleading information.
With strong diplomatic engagement, India continues to assert its position on Jammu and Kashmir at global forums, calling for fair and evidence-based discussions on human rights rather than broad and unfounded criticisms.
