External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar delivered a firm message on counter-terrorism during his meeting with Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski in New Delhi on January 19. The talks focused on bilateral cooperation, regional security, and broader global issues, with India underscoring its long-standing concerns about terrorism emanating from its neighbourhood.

During the discussions, Jaishankar emphasised that international engagement and policies should not inadvertently contribute to the strengthening of terror infrastructure. He called on partner nations to remain vigilant and responsible in their diplomatic, economic, and strategic interactions, particularly in regions affected by terrorism. India’s position reflects its consistent demand for a unified and uncompromising global stance against terror groups and their supporters.

The meeting between the two leaders also reviewed the growing ties between India and Poland. Both sides discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, defence, technology, and people-to-people exchanges. Poland has emerged as an important partner for India in Central and Eastern Europe, with increasing collaboration across multiple sectors.

Regional and global security developments were another key focus of the talks. Jaishankar highlighted the need for coordinated international efforts to address security challenges, including terrorism, radicalisation, and the misuse of financial and logistical networks by extremist groups. He reiterated that selective approaches to counter-terrorism weaken global security and undermine trust among nations.

The Polish foreign minister acknowledged India’s concerns and reaffirmed Poland’s commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms. Both leaders agreed on the importance of strengthening multilateral cooperation through platforms such as the United Nations and other international forums to address evolving security threats.

The meeting also touched upon developments in Europe and the Indo-Pacific, reflecting the shared interest of both countries in maintaining a stable and rules-based international order. Jaishankar noted that dialogue between like-minded partners is essential to promote peace, economic growth, and sustainable development.

India has consistently raised the issue of terror infrastructure in diplomatic engagements, urging countries to take concrete action against groups involved in cross-border terrorism. The message conveyed to Poland aligns with New Delhi’s broader foreign policy approach of combining partnership-building with a firm stance on national security concerns.

The talks concluded with both sides expressing confidence in the future of India-Poland relations and agreeing to continue high-level engagements. The meeting underscored India’s commitment to addressing security challenges while expanding cooperation with international partners based on shared values and mutual respect.
