Atlanta's hip-hop community is mourning the loss of rapper Young Scooter, whose real name was Kenneth Edward Bailey. The 39-year-old artist died on his birthday while attempting to evade police in southeast Atlanta.

Incident Details

Police responded to reports of gunfire and a woman being forcibly taken back into a residence on William Nye Drive SE. Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact, but a man at the residence closed the door abruptly. Subsequently, two men fled from the rear of the house. One individual returned to the home, while the other, identified as Bailey, attempted to escape by jumping over two fences. During this attempt, he sustained a severe leg injury. Officers found him injured and provided immediate medical assistance before transporting him to Grady Marcus Trauma Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police Statement

Lt. Andrew Smith of the Atlanta Police Department clarified that initial reports suggesting Bailey was shot by officers were inaccurate. He emphasized that the injury was self-inflicted during the escape attempt and not a result of police action. The exact cause of death remains under investigation by the Atlanta Medical Examiner's Office.
