The filings have raised fresh questions about the duration and nature of Wexner’s association with Epstein, the disgraced financier who died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.

Les Wexner, an influential American businessman and founder of retail giant L Brands, has returned to public focus following the release of new court documents connected to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation. The filings have raised fresh questions about the duration and nature of Wexner’s association with Epstein, the disgraced financier who died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.

Wexner, who built L Brands into a global retail empire that included Victoria’s Secret and Bath and Body Works, was one of Epstein’s most high-profile clients and associates. Epstein served as Wexner’s financial adviser for several years, a relationship that Wexner previously said ended in 2007 after discovering financial misconduct.

However, newly unsealed court documents suggest that Wexner may have been seeking criminal defence representation as late as 2019, the same year Epstein was arrested on federal charges. The records indicate concerns about potential legal exposure linked to Epstein’s activities, though they do not accuse Wexner of any criminal wrongdoing.

The disclosures come amid renewed congressional scrutiny. The US House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has issued subpoenas to several individuals with past ties to Epstein, including Wexner. The committee is examining how Epstein was able to maintain influence, wealth, and access to powerful individuals for years despite prior convictions and allegations.

According to official committee notices, Wexner has been asked to testify under oath regarding his relationship with Epstein, financial dealings, and any knowledge he may have had of Epstein’s conduct. His appearance before the committee is scheduled for February 18.

Wexner has consistently denied any involvement in Epstein’s criminal activities. In previous public statements, he described Epstein as a fraudster who deceived him and stated that he cut ties once he became aware of wrongdoing. He has also said that Epstein had no operational role within L Brands and that their association was strictly financial.

Despite these assertions, Wexner’s long-standing connection to Epstein has remained a point of interest for investigators and the public. Epstein reportedly lived in properties owned by Wexner for a period and wielded unusual financial authority over Wexner’s personal wealth, raising questions about oversight and accountability.

Legal experts note that being subpoenaed does not imply guilt, but reflects Congress’s effort to construct a fuller picture of Epstein’s network and how it functioned. The committee’s investigation is part of a broader attempt to identify institutional failures that allowed Epstein to evade accountability for years.

As more court records and testimonies emerge, scrutiny of Epstein’s associates is expected to intensify. Wexner’s upcoming testimony is likely to be closely watched, given his stature in the business world and the scale of his past relationship with Epstein.
